Updated : Apr 9, 2026

Actress Hansika Motwani has initiated legal action against her estranged sister-in-law, television actor Muskan Nancy James, by filing a Rs 2 crore civil defamation suit in a Mumbai sessions court. The legal dispute stems from allegations of domestic violence and harassment that James recently leveled against Motwani and her brother, Prashant.

In her plea filed at the Dindoshi sessions court, Motwani stated that the accusations made by James are entirely baseless and intended to tarnish her reputation. She claims that these false statements were deliberately made to avoid repaying a Rs 27 lakh loan.

Consequently, the actress is seeking not only financial compensation but also a public apology, alongside a court order restraining James from making any further disparaging remarks on social media. Prior to this defamation suit, Motwani had approached the Bombay High Court to quash the initial First Information Report (FIR) filed by James.

To escalate the legal proceedings further, she has additionally lodged a criminal defamation case against her sister-in-law in an Andheri magistrate court. The actress maintains that she has lived separately since her own marriage in 2022 and was completely uninvolved in the personal marital disputes between her brother and his wife.
